The primary role of the Buyer Planner will be to direct and control the movement of all materials used in the manufacturing environment from incoming receiving/inspection to pack and ship. The Buyer Planner will oversee all monitoring and control of inventory levels and accuracy for all inventory including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. This position will be based in Itasca, IL.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain an effective supply chain system to achieve optimum levels of productivity, inventory turns, customer satisfaction and inventory levels.
  • Manage procurement and effectively find suppliers with competitive costs.
  • Accurately maintain inventory balances in ERP database in order to preserve inventory integrity.
  • Establish departmental guidelines and policies to support accurate production related entries for proper costing and invoicing.
  • Over-see all inbound deliveries with respect to issue resolution.
  • Monitor all quality issues for inbound production related materials; providing feedback and support to customer and their vendors.
  • Constant review of processes that challenge claims and differentiate between internal and external accountability. Communicate these discrepancies to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure timely orders are in system of materials to meet customer demands based on MOQ
  • Manage, perform, and track all production related variances in ERP.
  • Generation and distribution of weekly reports that summarizing inventory accuracy through the use of cycle counts.
  • Timely communication with customer representatives and managers regarding inventory issues including the existence, cause and resolution of inventory variances.
  • Provide constant feedback to the Shift Managers and Shift Supervisors regarding operational accuracy in areas such as inventory, shipping & receiving, and production.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and instruct others in the proper methods by leading through example.
  • Create and maintain a safe and sanitary working environment.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager or other management.

Competency or Position Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working within a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing operations, and experience with high mix / low volume production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior management, teams, and individuals.
  • Exceptional communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a team oriented mindset.
  • Ability to use data and other methods for analytical problem solving.
  • Excellent accountability record and ability to take initiative.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.


  • Flexible packaging experience.
  • Experience as a purchasing manager or in a similar position.
